Default Guild Wars History: Most Broken Pvp Builds

Through the history of this game there have been some creative builds that were beyond belief just broken. The question is, what was the most broken one? If any of these builds were still around today, what would be the end all champions? Say your build and briefly explain what it did.\

1. Sand Shards:
It used to do 37 nearby damage everytime you failed to hit, go D/A, run way of empty palm and spam exhausting assault for stupid amount of AE damage.

2. Mystic Wrath Spike
8 monks on a team is always trouble, each running every enchant in the book and maintaining it on themselves and then calling a mystic wrath spike, each mystic wrath doing almost 300 damage. Practically impossible to kill with a spike of the ages.

3. Ele Smite:
Back before they nerfed ether renewal, zealots fire, reversal of fortune, and basically everything else that this build used, used zealots fire and spammed reversal of fortune on a warrior along with judges insight and balthazar aura with infinite energy and very difficult to kill.

4. Ranger Spike:
The 3/4 wait time after an interupt is actually relatively new, there used to be no wait time so ranger spikes would be 3 shots almost at the exact same time being a terribly effective spike.

I feel like sand shards is the end all build of guild wars history, it only took them about 10 hours to nerf it. I didn't play for over a year, no idea what came and went in that time.

Any build with Signet of Ghostly Might before the bug was fixed.

And Ether Renewal.

There was a bug that after you casted a spirit, you would be able to use the Signet on any target. Enemies and allies. After casted, they would deal +whatever damage and then be destroyed after 10 seconds.

GvGs were like, 5 minutes long.

Thats kind of funny, I've never seen this version of dark aura spike either, I'd run the necro bomb a few times but it was a joke compared to this version.

i do believe the fastest buff then nerfed skill was Way Of The Assassin. That skill was EXTREMELY broken, just put on a spear or a scythe and you drop anything in 2-3 hits if you did it right.

First time I saw the Sand Shards build in RA, I was uncontrollably LOL'ing watching 1 enemy destroy my team in seconds a bridge chokepoint on the Kurz level (with stone spores). It was nerfed so fast, I didn't have time to try it myself.

It all started with IWAY.

Or something along those lines.

Seriously... We can do better then that guys. What about:

1. The Balthazar's aura bug.
Waaaaaay back in the day (maybe a month after release) BA was bugged, allowing you to stack multiple copies of the spell on one character. 1 warrior running around with 8 copies of BA made for insane amounts of PBAoE...

2. Ye Old Ranger Spirit Spam in HA
Rangers could spam multiple copies of each spirit, effectively walling off entire sections. The spirits effects also effected the spirits themselves. Imagine multiple copies of fertile season all stacked up. It's not easy trying to capture an altar when you have to kill a bazillion 1000hp spirits just to get there...

3. The Old Exhaustion Bug (mainly GvG i guess)
Back in the old days you could simply kill of exhaustion by switching between high and low energy sets. Exhaustion couldn't go negative, meaning a switch between sets was all you needed to clear away most of it. Combine that with a pre-nerf Gale and you have warriors running around perma galing monks. Awesome fun, though...

4. Ether Prodigy + Lifebond
There used to be no cap on the amount of enchantments you could maintain. Since the amount of negative energy pips you can have is capped, this used to mean that if you could just maintain -10 energy pips you could just bond the RED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GORED ENGINE GO out of everything and everyone. Bonding an entire team + all the GvG NPCs meant alot less damage...

There are alot of others I remember (Anyone still remember Chain Lightning spike? Fast cast air spike, Fear me warriors, Thumperbunnies, broken shadowstep mechanics, Searing flames, Super defensive paragon builds, the old bloodspikes, the OLD iways (with spirits counting as dead allies) etc...)

Edit: I vaguely remember a really boring e-drain build, back before the days of Obs mode. Anyone remember what that was about?

ViMway deserves a mention for nostalgic reasons although it wasn't up there with the most powerful builds. More annoying I reckon.

For those who don't know, it consisted of a bunch of R/Ws with traps and "Victory is Mine!" for great survivability, one W/Me with Signet of Humility to counter RC monks and sometimes a monk for the Ghostly.
